Horse Tales Literacy Project

Trowbridge’s Ltd. Arabian horse farm in Bridgewater partnered this spring with the elementary schools in Region 12 to provide the Horse Tales Literacy Project for the first time in Connecticut. HTLP is a non-profit organization based on the “Black Stallion” books by Walter Farley and seeks to promote literacy through inspiring children to read by connecting them with a classic book and the magic of live horses.

The first grade classes from the region’s three schools visited the farm twice. On their first visit, the students were given a tour of the facility, watched demonstrations, and were given a copy of their first book, “Little Black, A Pony.” During their second visit to Trowbridge’s, the students were given the opportunity to read to a horse. Above, first graders from the Burnham School in Bridgewater passed around horse brushes while watching a grooming demonstration by Clara D’Amico (lower left) as part of their first visit.

Our Region’s first graders visited Trowbridge’s on May 1st as part of the Horse Tales Literacy Project. After taking a tour and learning about Arabian Horses and how we take care of them, they had a great time cheering on Mikey in the arena.

Horse Tales Literacy Project at Trowbridges First-graders from Region 12 elementary schools last week visited Trowbridge Ltd. Arabian horse farm in Bridgewater for a program that encourages reading.The event was the first of two visits to the farm the children will make as they participate in Horse Tales Literacy Project. Trowbridge Visits and Presentations Another great visit from our local first graders as they returned to read their fave page to a horse. Kreme Dela Krewe (Owner: Kathy D’Auria) and Mikey (Owner: Rory Ronan) were their usual Excellent Ambassador selves and our hero Radio (Owner: Justine Ameye) yet again donated his body for education.
